There’s no doubt TikTok marketing is effective — 78% of small businesses owners say TikTok ads can drive profits in as little as six months, Business Wire reports. So, if you want to maximize audience engagement on the platform and boost your ROI even further, it’s important to work out the best times to post and plan your content schedule accordingly. By looking at the existing data, your audience analytics, and competitor best practices, you can increase your chances of reaching your target audience at just the right time.

When’s the best time to post on TikTok?

Let’s look at the data…

Although there’s no one-size-fits-all best time to post on TikTok, a number of studies can provide useful guidelines to help you maximize engagement while you’re still growing your following. For instance, according to Sprout Social, the best time to post is between 2pm to 6pm on Thursday. For Influencer Hub, the best times are 9am on Tuesday, 12am on Thursday, and 5am on Friday. And Hootsuite says 7pm on Thursday is your best bet. So, although these are fairly different results, they do share a few common threads. Namely, Thursday stands out as the best overall day to post, with weekdays being better than weekends in general. Also, posts are likely to get the most views at times before and after standard workday hours.

Keep in mind, you needn’t take these results as gospel. Don’t just start posting on Thursdays and leave it at that. Ideally, you should post between one to four times everyday. This is actually what TikTok recommends, so play around with your posting schedule. The more you post, the more your content will be boosted by the algorithm.

How To Maximize TikTok Engagement

TikTok’s algorithm changes all the time, but the following tips are tried and true.

Know your audience

Although the above guidelines are a great place to start, it’s useful to get to know your audience’s unique scrolling habits, so you can time your posts accordingly for maximum engagement. So, look at the analytics dashboard on your TikTok business account to glean valuable insights into your audience behaviors. In particular, click on the Followers tab to see when your followers are most active on the platform. Start scheduling your posts to go live just before these peak traffic hours. So, if your followers are most active at 2pm, schedule your post for 1.55pm, for example. This can help increase the odds of more people seeing and engaging with your post. You should also keep a record of your content schedule, so you can test different times to see what works best for your business.

Although TikTok marketing is effective, it requires considerable investment in time and energy. In fact, over 30% of businesses say they find it difficult to boost engagement rates on TikTok, while 25% say being consistent with content creation is a challenge. Fortunately, for businesses that need expert support, marketing agencies can work with them to grow their TikTok accounts and boost engagement. In this case, an agency RFP (Request for Proposal) can be a useful way to quickly find agencies suited to your specific project goals and requirements. As an RFP clearly outlines your project needs for agencies to respond to, this process makes it easier for you to contrast and compare various agencies and ultimately land on the company best suited for the job.

Take a look at what your competitors are doing

You can also look at your competitors’ TikTok accounts to see which posts do best. Look at the times these posts are made (along with the video length and hashtags) to discover what’s most popular with your target audience. You can then replicate their best practices within your own content strategy. Since you and your competitors share the same (or at least a very similar) target customer base, you can be confident that their posting schedule will likely also work well for you.

Posting to TikTok at the best times is key if you want to maximize your engagement and grow your reach. By looking at existing data, your audience habits, and competitor best practices, you can create a successful content strategy that reaches your target audience at exactly the right times.
